Any Americans ever live in Iran

Any Americans ever live in Iran?
My husband is a petroleum engineer for a company in Texas and they want to send him on assignment to Tehran for 18 months. I am a bit uneasy about this with everything I've heard about the country. I want to support him in his career and all, but I'm not sure if this would be good for our family. We would be going there with our 3-year-old son. Anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance.

Given the current tensions between Iran and the US, this sounds like a bad idea.
2 :
I would NOT do it. Things are very scary over there and the don't just kill you, you are tortured and then they behead you. I don't mean to be so blunt but I feel very strongly that this would be a huge mistake.
3 :
I recomment checking this out: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/worldguide/iran/ You might want to buy some published, reliable sources and speak to other people who have traveled there also.
4 :
I am not sure you or your son should go he might be OK but this is something you should discuss with your husband and determine what is best for your family **Added Not all Iranians want to kill Americans Yes there are a large amount that would love to kill Americans some just want to live in peace

I wouldnt go!

The best thing would be to ask for the names of other people from his company who have been there and talk to them. I think it should be okay, it will be for a short time and your son is not in school yet so that is not an issue. Usually, in these kind of assignments, you will be living in an American compound with other american workers and you don't need to ever leave it if you don't want to. Your contact with iranians will be very limited.

Iran is not the nicest place to live in but their common people are friendly and show high hospitality and respect towards foreigners specially if they find out you are from the US (or “America” as they call it.) You can notice it from the first contact with them when you get out of the airport and get into a cab. Nevertheless, you must be very patient when you are dealing with their officials like in the Passport Office, Iranian Embassy, etc. It is one of the safest countries in the region as far as the crime is concerned. It is far safest than Washington DC or New York or even Texas. However it has one of the worst and dangerous traffic I have ever seen after India or Mexico. With the situation going on in Iraq and also current relationship between Bush administration and all other countries in the rest of the world, you must expect a little embarrassment not only in Iran but also in most parts of the world because they think all Americans support Bush’s war policies. They call this war not a liberation war but a “war for oil.” It could change if the Democrats succeed to get control of the White House. If you want to live in the capital, Tehran, you should not have any problem to find the good quality food or commodities. There is no public liquor store in Iran but I am sure you can find liquor even though it is illegal to carry one. Females are to cover their head while in public and definitely shorts and T-Shirts are No No on streets! If you are more interested, send me your specific questions in an email and I can give you more info. I was working for National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) for some years and people in this company are more open minded and know more English compared to the other governmental companies. Good Luck and I am sure you will enjoy staying in Iran.

The US does not recognize a doctors license if they are from Iran. I'm not sure if you have to go to school again, but I know you have to be tested. My cousin is in Iran and he has already looked into this.

Hey, I, myself, am an Iranian in Canada. The following is the best way for getting into a medical school in Canada with a scholarship. First contact a good medical university in Canada, I would recommend The University of Toronto, http://www.utoronto.ca/ . The best way to contact them is to email them. Tell them about your situation and they'll help you out with all the information you need. If you get accpeted, you'll have to go to the Canadian embassy in Tehran and get a student visa and you are on your way here!!

It depends on your scores . but as a friend :carry on your major until the end.
