Iran's refusal to recognize Israel as a country has no effect on the Jewish people living in Iran.

= how can they live their when Iran doesnt even recognise Israels rite to exist. The two aren't related at all... For example, for centuries Israel did not even exist -- yet the Jews lived all over the world... My dentist is a Jew from Iran. He told me, life was not pleasant, but tolerable. His uncle still lives there, for example.

Because those 20k jews own Iran's Banking system.

Not all Jews consider Zionism the center of their lives. I am more puzzled by the fact that women can live there. Iran was a modern, secular, and educated nation before Khomeini.

What do Iranian Jews have to do with Israel? I personally believe Iran and Israel should unite against the Arabs.

original jews were prisoners in babylon, cyrus made them free, not all of them returned to Ur Shalom, some choose to live in persia, from those times jews had a presence among persians. but those jews are not like european jews, european jews are descendants of khazar turks who converted to jewish while jews from middle east are descendants of original jews and are semites. currently israel denies this because this matter can bring political consequences for them (arabs claim that most jews have turkish ethnics and have no right to settle in israel!), but it does not sound credible because jews in israel are living together and well mixed.

For many of them, they can't get out. We've been trying to get some friends out of Iran for years now. All the best.

Those Jews who didn't leave Iran in earlier years, mostly can't leave now. The Iranian government won't let them leave as family units. If one person leaves, the rest of the family can't get permission to board planes. Those left behind are at risk of being accused of conspiracy to spy. They also can't take their belongings or money or elderly. It's very hard to know exactly what's going on inside Iran with the Jewish community. Family that's in Iran already (left much earlier) doesn't like to say much because it puts their family inside at risk. (So I've heard by them.) _____________________ Details: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/anti-semitism/iranjews.html (good general summary) "For example, in May 1998, Jewish businessman Ruhollah Kakhodah-Zadeh was hanged in prison without a public charge or legal proceeding, apparently for assisting Jews to emigrate." http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/anti-semitism/iranjew.html ============= @another answerer That khazarist claim is a long disproven myth. Besides - Ottoman turks ruled ME for centuries.
